MOUNT SOLARO - CETRELLA ![]() Anacapri is situated on the high part of the island and is connected to Capri by a beautiful panoramic road (40 minutes on foot, 10 minutes by auto) which offers an unforgettable view of the Gulf of Naples, from the Sorrentine Peninsula to the island of Ischia. At the point where this road passes the Chapel of St. Anthony, it crosses the "Scala Fenicia", a staircase cut into the rock wall. In ancient times this was the only connection between Anacapri and the Marina Grande. From Piazza della Vittoria a chairlift takes you up Mount Solaro to the highest point of the island (1932 feet). From here you can return to Anacapri on foot (50 minutes) by way of the delightful little valley of Santa Maria a Cetrella. From Piazza della Vittoria it is only 5 minutes to the Villa San Michele, built by the Swedish author-physician Axel Munthe and now a museum. |
